Metung Bushland Reserve
The Metung Bushland Reserve is an important example of Limestone Box Forest and Warm Temperate Rainforest in the heart of Metung. Containing numerous habitat trees, it is a significant haven (3.95 ha) for a range of bird species and other fauna.
Although currently under-valued, it should be an important recreational asset for the people of Metung and there is a growing number of interested community keen to reveal and enhance its hidden appeal.
The Reserve is located to the east of Stirling Road and north of Park Rd and Christmas Street (see map).
The Bushland Reserve is within the Country of the Tatungolong Clan of the Gunai/Kurnai peoples of Gippsland.
The Reserve is endowed with the following general values;
- value to the community as part of the natural heritage
- aesthetic values
- a recreational, education and scientific resource.
